Task overview

The Preliminary task that we have produced is a short clip which includes the media languages and techniques that we have learnt in class.

The task has included Mise-en-scene, camera, angle, shot, movements, sound, and editing. The requirement of the task is about one minute with a clear storyline, theme, and relationship between the character. We chose the filming location at our school balcony. Our story is about two lovers who met again after they broke up years ago, they still love each other but for realistic reasons they cannot be with each other ever.

Task reflection

I learned a lot from this task. I thought this task is easy for us, however, when we starting to do, we found that we have so many problems.

One of the main problem is we filmed with a wrong angle. When the female character spoke, we changed the angle and composition, and it made the editing incoherent. Second, we filmed with noises, so at the editing stage, we added VoiceOver, which made our work harder.

The weakness is that we didn't consider much of the misè-en scene. We have lack of lighting and stage settings. We only used sunlight with the reflection board when we filming, we also didn't design the settings very much. This is the main part that I will focus on in my future studies.

Nevertheless, Sophia and I worked out lots of things that make our film better. We tried several background music for our film, we chose Billie Eilish's "I love U" as our final background music. And the music highlighted the nostalgia atmosphere for the film. Moreover, we filmed on a hazy day at the balcony and added a greyish filter after, the pale and grey tone set a sad atmosphere for this. I will keep my strengths with me.
