From the technical process: Because I was also involved in the editing process, I developed my editing skills throughout this project, it has been a journey that has truly been a learning experience. As I mentioned before, I was unaware of the various feature of professional cameras and editing programs, and I had limited knowledge regarding how to take pictures by pressing a button. But throughout the planning and filming stages, I understand how different camera angles could create different impacts among audiences, such as eye-level shots breaking the fourth wall and low angle shots connoting a higher status of the characters, as well as the over-the-shoulder shot, dolly-tilt and point-of-view shot, etc. Moreover, because I was helping my partner to get an idea of the storyline, so I edited a film opening as a model for him to be the reference. In the beginning, I thought the editing was just putting all the footage together and adding some soundtracks. But I was thinking too easily, it took me hours to edit a full film opening. Since I have never touched this area, the process of editing to me is like an experiment, I need to try different transition effects, different color palettes, and different sound effects to make the film opening. I’ve never thought a soundtrack with a similar tone could create a completely different feeling. Also, I tried to add a special effect on a shot that uses a picture of the flower Lily and overlaps the clip with Lily looking at the mirror. It’s hard to achieve because I need to mix the two sources and make sure Lily’s face is clear and the flower is visible at the same time. It was a real challenge for me. Nevertheless, I was thinking to use Blender to create my studio logo because I was attracted by one of the logos I saw on Pinterest, I search for a tutorial on Youtube on how to use and how to make liquid metal typography that combines with animation. But it requires a large amount of time and I still haven’t figured it out, I am stuck at the animation stage. So I switched to Picsart and JianYing to create my studio logo. It can be said that learning how to use Blender is the most difficult part of the project. The other aspects: 1- Time management: It’s been a chaotic situation when we were doing our first filming because we want to have a party scene that is during the mid-night, so we had to film it after the sun goes down and the sky became darker which would be suitable for our setting. However, because it was our first time working together and the role distribution was not clear, so some of the shots took a very long time to finish. For example the crowd of people going down the stairs. So we finished at really late midnight only for a part of it. It is difficult for me and the other two partners to schedule the filming date and editing date, so we have to change our role distribution so that I and my other partner become the cameraman and edit the demo for another partner. This was a crucial lesson for me is we always need to plan so that we have sufficient time to make any changes and other unexpected things.
